Snippets of Us

Hi, I'm Katherine. He's Rod, and together we have three beauties - Cooper {6y}, Hayden {4y} and Tahlia {1.5y}. It is without doubt, their laughter that makes our world go round.

Here you will find snippets of things we love...family l friends l photos l food l general sillyness...it's our modern day scrapbook of things we want our kids to cherish and read about in years to come.

Pull up a chair, make yourself a cuppa and enjoy our precious everyday moments! xx

I am easily contactable via clicking the 'ask away' button. So go on, make me happy!!!

Too much cuteness in one photo!

We had Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at Hayden’s pre-school this morning…this is our boy with all his buddies (all he has known since birth…as each of their siblings were in Cooper’s pre-school classroom!).

It’s been magical watching these little guys grow up into mini-men!

It will be super sad when the end of year rolls around and each of them go to 4 separate schools.

My heart just sighs thinking about it.

Pre-school friends have seen it all - learning to walk, talk, feed yourself, share, sing, dance, joke, negotiate, potty train, fight, learn, listen and generally run-a-muck!

Such special times that I know Hayden will cherish as he builds new friendships at big school.

Guess what I’m having on my toast today?

Hayden-made strawberry jam - the sweetest gift from his day care…it’s sooo delicious (I’m going to ask him for the recipe!)

Please look at these faces! Rod just sent me a text with this pic…the boys are on their way to collect Tahlia from my parent’s place.

They had to have all their dinner and could then eat an ice-cream on their way…

Can you tell I’m out tonight?!? I’m at the Sydney Seafood School for a 2 hour course :) It was my Mother’s Day Gift from last year…and I have exactly 22 hours to use it.

I am hopeless with vouchers.

But these faces…Cooper lost another tooth yesterday (we’re going broke over here!) - hence his pointing to the gap. And Hayden, he just looks like he’s struck gold.

Ice-cream does wonders in our place.

Um, how am I meant to get any work done, when my sister sends me picks of this little guy!? I so could squish his cheeks right now xx

I just read this amazing excerpt from spiritual writer, Henri Nouwen, from his book, Here and Now. It struck such a powerful chord with me, that I woke Rod to read it to him {he was only 5 minutes into his sleep, so really didn’t mind - I’m sure}:

Children are a gift.

Being a parent is like being a good host to a stranger. While we may think that our children are like us, we are continually surprised at how different they are. We can be gladdened by their intelligence, their artistic gifts, or their athletic prowess, or saddened by their slowness in learning, their lack of coordination, or their “odd” interests. In many way we don’t know our children.

We didn’t create our own children, nor do we own them. This is good news. We don’t need to blame ourselves for their problems, nor should we claim ourselves their successes.

Children are a gift from God. They are given to us so that we can offer them a safe, loving place to grow to inner and outer freedom. They are like strangers who ask for hospitality, become good friends, and then leave again to continue their journey. They bring immense joy and immense sorrow precisely because they are gifts. And a good gift, as a proverb says, is “twice given.”

The gift we receive, we have to give again. When our children leave us to study, to look for work, to marry, to join a community, or simply to become independent, sorrow and joy touch each other. Because it is then that we feel deeply that “our” child isn’t really “ours” but given to us to become a true gift to others.

It is so hard to give our children their freedom- especially in this violent and exploitative world. We so much want to protect them from all possible dangers. But we cannot. They do not belong to us. They belong to God, and one of the greatest acts of trust in God is letting our children make their own choices and find their own way.

A bittersweet reality of our purpose as parents.

I can’t say it’s easy for me to think like this - but the truth is, our children come through us - to listen to our life experiences, watch how we live, absorb our beliefs and values - but then they must go on to build their own.

That is the true gift of life.

Look who’s rockin’ leopard print tights (or giraffe dots, as Hayden calls them)…

geekscoutcookies:

If you dont do anything else tonight. Press Play. I was laughing, singing and  cheering.

PRESS PLAY.

YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS

Rod and I were in stitches watching this! Some people are so talented and funny, that they ooze charisma without even knowing it!

Press play and have a good belly laugh x

Award for cutest Mother’s Day gift goes to Rod! This is a puzzle he had printed with our family pic from last Mother’s Day.

The kids were divine this morning, piling up into our bed at 7am with all their gorgeous hand made gifts and cookies from school and day-care.

I really love this day, as I feel it’s truly the one day I have honestly ‘earned’. Cooper even announced that I was allowed to ‘be bossy’ today! :)

So I’m lapping up every bit of attention I get today - cold cheesy toast and all! There’s nothing like breakfast in bed with 3 little mouths all vying for the froth off your cappuccino! Those same 3 little faces that rely on you for their warmth, shelter and food - their life. It’s awesome being a mum. It’s exhausting and challenging…but when those little people wrap their arms around you and thank you for being their Mum - it makes all the other stuff so insignificant.

Happy Mother’s Day to me. I love you my little cherubs x

oh my.
…and these are just the brown tones!
I wonder if there’s a room for each colour!?

Yeah Rod.

The moment you realise you’ve been made redundant from packing lunches.

Would it be wrong to get him to pack mine?

Life is too short to eat shit chocolate.

Me. :)

Rod is getting a shirt made with these very inspirational Easter words…

Happy Easter!

Check out the guy who’s all serious about the egg hunt…the one who is distracted by some cubby house tools…and the little bunny who has decided she’s happy with her 4 little eggs and is ready to eat the rewards!

{and the mummy behind the camera, that consumed her weight in chocolate before midday!}
